Council years run from the May Annual Council meeting until the Annual Council meeting the following May. The Council has a duty to hold an Annual Council meeting and this must be held in May. In an election year this will be within 14 days of the new Councillors taking office, which is 18 days after the date of election, as previous Councillors don’t retire until the fourth day after the election.
Council Meetings are normally held on the last Tuesday of each month and there must be at least 6 Councillors present to make the meeting quorate and legally able to take place.
Minutes of the Council meetings are not supposed to be a full account of everything that was discussed or said at a meeting, but simply an accurate record of all resolutions and decisions made by the Council at the meeting in question link to guidance
Members of the public are welcome to attend these meetings, they are usually held at the Council Offices. There is a specific slot available for ‘public participation’, which allows individuals to speak about any subject on that night’s agenda for a maximum of 3 minutes each, the total time allowed for this slot is no more than 15 minutes.
Please note there are no meetings during August when the Council are in recess.
