Julie Shields 2018 – 2023
Moved to North Walsham in 1988 from Portsmouth. Started working at the Town Council in January 2014 as Finance Officer part-time, after leaving a finance position of 11yrs at Paston College.
After 4 years of being the Town Council Finance Officer, Julie also took on the position of Town Clerk following the resignation of Nicholas Clancy in 2018. She continued to do both roles for 5 years before taking early retirement in May 2023.
Nicolas Clancy 13.1.14 – 28.2.18
Joined the Town Council in January 2014 after stepping down as secretary of the national Lhasa Apso Club. Nicolas moved to South Africa aged 6 for 10yrs returning to Essex in 1979. He moved to North Walsham in 2002, whilst continuing to work in London, until June 2013 when a bad back caused him to leave, after being a civil servant for 23yrs.
He resigned from the Council in February 2018 for pastures new.
Margaret Foster 1.1.98 – 28.2.14
Joined North Walsham Urban District Council in the late 60’s as Secretary to the then Clerk Ron Nash and left in 1974 to have children. Rejoining the Urban District Council on 9.2.96 as Ron Nash’s Secretary and becoming Deputy Clerk to Ron Nash’s successor in November 1997 when Ron Nash retired. After the successor left, after just 6 weeks as Town Clerk, Margaret became the new Town Clerk on 1.1.98 until retiring in February 2014
Ron Nash 1957 – 1997
Joined North Walsham Urban District Council as Town Clerk in 1957.
After government restructure in 1974, Ron worked for North Norfolk District Council as Deputy Secretary & later as District Administrator, whilst also continuing to work for the newly formed North Walsham Town Council as part time Town Clerk. He retired from NNDC in 1985, but continued to work for North Walsham Town Council as Town Clerk until retiring in November 1997
